Biography

Private William Dewar Turnbull was born December 8, 1884 in Frasers Mills. He was the son of Samuel Abraham Turnbull and Christina Agnes Dewar. Prior to enlistment he worked as a clerk. Turnbull also listed that he was a musician. William Turnbull enlisted August 24, 1915 in Sussex, New Brunswick.

Turnbull  first served with the 64th Overseas Battalion then transferred to the 40th Battalion September 25, 1916.  Turnbull was then transferred June 16, 1917 to served in the 85th Battalion Overseas Unit in France. The Unit arrived in Étaples, France June 7, 1917. Turnbull was discharged due to demobilization June 15, 1919 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

After the war Turnbull resided in the town of Antigonish and worked as the superintendent of the Fish Hatchery in Frasers Mills. Turnbull died August 30, 1957 in Frasers Mills.
