Biography

William John Fraser was born June 17, 1924 in Beauly, Antigonish County. He was the son of John Fraser and Margaret Carrol.

Fraser enlisted in the Canadian Army at age 19 in 1943. Over the course of the war he served in England, Belgium and Holland. In recognition of his service, Fraser received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the King George VI Defence of England Medal, the 1939-1945 Star and the France and Germany Star. Fraser also recieved the “Thank You Canada” Medal from Holland which was awarded to Canadian veterans who liberated Holland in commemoration of the 50th anniversary in 1995.

Following the war, Fraser moved to Sudbury, Ontario where he worked as a miner for Falconbridge Nickle Mines. Fraser died May 16, 2015, at Extendicare York Senior’s Home in Sudbury. He is buried in Civic Memorial Cemetery, Sudbury, Ontario.
