Biography
William Hugh MacPherson was born January 12, 1894 in St. Andrews, Antigonish County. He was the son of Hugh MacPherson and Catherine MacDonald. In 1925, MacPherson immigrated to the United States of America and arrived in Massachusetts on September 27, 1915. His occupation upon arrival was a milk wagon driver.
MacPherson entered the American Expeditionary Forces on June 25, 1918 and was dispatched on July 21, 1919. Prior to enlistment MacPherson was a grocery clerk in Newton, Massachusetts. MacPherson was naturalized while in the army on August 6, 1918 at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Mercer, New Jersey.
After the war, MacPherson worked in various positions in sales and the dairy industry. He is listed federal censuses as a salesman in Newton, Massachusetts in 1930, a salesman for a milk company Waterton, Massachusetts in 1940 and as a milk reserver in Watertown in 1950.
In 1932, MacPherson married Gladys Maidment of Trinity Bay, Newfoundland in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They two sons and two daughters. MacPherson resided in Watertown, Massachusetts for over 30 years, before moving to New Jersey sometime after his wife’s death in 1976. MacPherson died in New Jersey on March 27,1982. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Waltham, New Jersey.
