Biography

Lance Corporal Vincent Chisholm Butler was born in Heatherton/Pomquet River Station, Antigonish County on October 25, 1892. His foster mother was Mrs. Flora Chisholm. He was the grandson of John Chisholm of Heatherton, Antigonish County. Before the war Butler worked as a linesman.

Butler enlisted in the 85th Battalion on October 29, 1915 in Halifax and was a Special Guard with the Canadian Military Police. Butler served in France. On September 28, 1917, Butler was injured by shelling and abstained shrapnel in his left hip. This wound healed months later and he continued to serve until demobilization.

Butler died April 4, 1950 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is buried in the Field of Honour, Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver.
