Biography

Private Thomas Alexander Chisholm was born July 9, 1895 to Colin B. Chisholm and Elizabeth Chisholm in St. Andrews, Antigonish County. Prior to enlistment, Chisholm worked as a butter-maker in St. Andrews.

Chisholm enlisted in the 1st Depot Battalion of the Nova Scotia Regiment May 24, 1918. He was then transferred to the 17th Reserve Battalion based in Bramshott upon arrival in England on August 16, 1918. Chisholm served with the battalion for four months until he was transferred to the 7th Canadian Record Office in London on December 12, 1918 and Bramshott on March 28, 1919 were he was posted for six months. Chisholm was discharged due to demobilization September 20, 1919 shortly after his return to Canada in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Following the war, Chisholm moved to Margaree, Inverness County, Cape Breton to work as a manger of a dairy creamer. On October 28, 1923 he married Jessie May Coady of Margaree Forks, Inverness County at St. Joseph’s Church in South West Margaree. Chisholm died May 17, 1946 in Margaree Forks, Inverness County, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia due to lung cancer. He is buried in St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, South West Margaree, Inverness County.
