Biography

Margaret Anna Fraser was born February 12, 1891 in Marydale, Antigonish County. She was the daughter of Dan Fraser and Mary MacDonald. Prior to enlistment she worked as a nurse in Antigonish.

Fraser enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps on January 26, 1917 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Fraser arrived in England on April 16, 1917 and was posted to the No. 2 Canadian General Hospital on April 19, 1917. Fraser was then posted to the 6th Canadian General Hospital on September 21, 1917. On May 30, 1918, she was sent to the Canadian Forestry Corps Hospital in Lajoux, Jura Mountains, France. She returned to England on  April 7, 1919 and was transferred to the 14th Canadian General Hospital in Eastbourne, then transferred to the 16th Canadian General Hospital in Orpington on July 14, 1919.

Following the war, Fraser immigrated to the United States, arriving in Boston on September 8, 1922. She married James Paul O’Brian of Bronx, New York in New York City on May 1, 1927. They went on to have two children born in New York. By 1940, Fraser and O’Brian were living in Teaneck, Bergen County, New Jersey where they continued to reside into the 1950s.
