Biography
Private John Clement Chisholm was born March 30, 1896 in Marydale, Antigonish County. He was the son of Donald Roderick “Dan Rory” Chisholm of Pomquet River, Antigonish County and Christina Chisholm of Lower South River, Antigonish County. Prior to enlistment Chisholm was a farmer in Marydale. Chisholm enlisted June 8, 1918 in the 1st Depot Battalion of the Nova Scotia Regiment at Aldershot Camp, Kings County, Nova Scotia. He was discharged due to demobilization on January 6, 1919 in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Following the war, Chisholm worked on his family’s farm in Marydale until 1924 when he immigrated to the United States. He was naturalized as an American citizen in Michigan on October 10, 1940. Chisholm married Bertha Anne Green of Detroit, Michigan December 27, 1943 at St. Gabriel’s Church, Detroit. They then lived in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. By 1950, Chisholm and his wife Bertha Anne Green were residing in Detriot Michigan, where Chisholm was employed as a real estate salesman, and his wife was employed as a highschool English teacher.
Chisholm died January 3, 1977 in Detroit, Michigan. He is buried in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan.
