Biography

Private John Boyd was born August 26, 1893 in Saint Andrews, Antigonish County. He was the son of Angus Boyd and Mary McIsaac. Boyd immigrated to the United States in 1914, most likely to work in the mining industry. Prior to enlistment he worked as a miner in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana for Anaconda Copper Mining Company.

Boyd enlisted for the draft registration June 5, 1917 in Butte, Montana. He was inducted in Butte, Montana on September 3, 1918. Boyd served in the 166 Depot Battalion of the 44 Infantry, of the 44th Company and the 11th Battalion. He trained at Camp Lewis, Washington state. Boyd was discharged due to demobilization on December 5, 1918.

Following the war, Boyd worked as a mining engineer in Butte, Montana. Boyd moved to Eureka, Nevada. Boyd died on December 27, 1945 in Boone Springs, Elko County, Nevada while on vacation as a tourist. His death certificate states he likely died of a heart attack. He is buried in the Veterans Plot of Elko City Cemetery, Elko County, Nevada.
