Biography

Private Howard Charles Horton was born April 22, 1896 in Roachville, Guysborough County. He was the son of Thomas Horton and Mary-Mollie O’Neil. Prior to the enlistment he worked as a mill-man. Horton enlisted May 15, 1918 in the 1st Depot Battalion of the Nova Scotia Regiment. He was discharged December 10, 1918.

Following the war Horton worked at a sawmill 1920s and became a farmer by the 1930s. On May 26, 1934 Horton married Laura Pearl Dort of Cooks Cove, daughter of Thomas Porter and Agnes Cook of Roachville at Manchester United Church, Manchester, Guysborough County.

Horton died 1984 in Roachville, Guysborough County Nova Scotia. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough, Guysborough County.
