Biography

Gordon James Mash was born on February 15, 1916, in Saskatchewan to Herbert and Florence (Smith) Mash.

Gordon enlisted in the Army in Regina. He remained in the Reserve Army for a time and played clarinet in the Regina Rifles Band. In late 1941, he was sent to the Longue Pointe Embarkation Centre in Montreal before being sent overseas.

Gordon served in Italy, the Netherlands, England, Germany, and France as a member of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. While in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Gordon and his unit held a Christmas party for local children in December 1942.

During his time in the Army, he attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Gordon returned home in May 1946.

Gordon married Agnes Donalda McCluskie and, after the war, worked for the Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada.
