Biography

Edgar Isadore DeWolfe was born on April 9, 1918, in Merland, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, to Stephen and Margaret (Boudreau) DeWolfe. In 1934, the family moved to Lower South River.

DeWolfe was a veteran of the Second World War. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the Canadian Army with the 86th Heavy Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, on September 4, 1939. He served in the United Kingdom and continental Europe during the war. In 1944, while serving in the Netherlands, he sustained an injury that resulted in the loss of his arm. He was discharged on April 3, 1945. His brothers, Arthur and Frederick DeWolfe, also served during the war.

Following his return to Lower South River, DeWolfe worked for MacMillan’s Mill, where he drove a truck hauling lumber.
On November 6, 1951, he married Beatrice Quirk of Roman Valley, Guysborough County. The couple had one son.

Edgar Isadore DeWolfe passed away in Antigonish on February 4, 1989.
