Biography
Donald Alexander Cameron was born on September 17, 1921, to Alex and Mary Agnes (MacDonald) Cameron. He attended school at Lower South River School, South Side Harbour School, and St. Andrews School. After completing his schooling, he worked with his father at the Cloverdale Creamery until 1941, when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.
He trained at Claresholm, Alberta, and later transferred to Winnipeg as a Wireless Air Gunner. Unfortunately, due to illness, he missed his graduation and was required to repeat his training. After completing his training, he received his commission and was prepared to be sent overseas when the war in Europe ended. He was then sent for further training in preparation for service in the war against Japan, but that conflict also ended before he was deployed.
After his discharge, Donald attended St. Francis Xavier University for three years to complete his engineering diploma. He later rejoined the Royal Canadian Air Force and completed his electrical engineering degree. He was stationed at Claresholm, Alberta, until his discharge in the 1950s.
Donald then joined the General Electric Corporation, where he worked on military installations, including the radar installation in Beaverbrook, Nova Scotia, which he supervised for two years. Afterwards, he worked out of Ottawa until his retirement.
He was married to Isabel Wallace, and together they had four children.
Donald Cameron passed away on September 3, 2006, in Banff, Alberta, at the age of 85.
