Biography

Lieutenant Colonel David Cameron Hartigan was born August 2, 1914 in North Sydney, Cape Breton. He was the son of Michael Jospeh Hartigan and Mary Cameron. The Hartigans moved to Centreville, Cape Breton in the 1920s where Michael Joseph Hartigan worked as a coal inspector. By 1931 they had taken up farming and had moved to a farm in Dunmore, Antigonish County.

Haritgan’s brothers Hugh W. Hartigan, Collin Francis “Frank” Hartigan, and Dan R. Hartigan also served in the Second World War.

Hartigan served in the Canadian Army in the Second World War.  While serving in the army he married Dorothy Boutilier of New Waterford, Cape Breton at Calvin United Church in New Waterford, Decemeber 17, 1941.

After the war Hartigan worked as a saleman for a car dealership in Sydney Cape Breton. Haritgan died August 12, 1963 at the City Hospital in Sydney, Cape Breton. He is buried in Hardwood Hill Cemetery in Sydney, Cape Breton.
