Biography
Collin Francis Hartigan was born May 23, 1919 in North Sydney, Cape Breton. He was the son of Michael Jospeh Hartigan and Mary Cameron. By the 1920s, the Hartigans had moved to Centreville, Cape Breton where Michael Joseph Hartigan worked as a coal inspector. By 1931 they had taken up farming and had moved to a farm in Dunmore, Antigonish County.
Hartigan was a veteran of the Second World War. His older brothers David Hartigan and William Hugh “Hugh” Hartigan and younger brother Dan R. Hartigan also served in the Second World War.
Hartigan moved to British Columbia in the 1940s and married Gladys Eileen Jackson. He worked as a health inspector in Yale, British Columbia in the late 1940s and was working as a health inspector in New Westminster, British Columbia by the 1960s. Hartigan’s wife, Gladys Eileen Jackson died in Honolulu in 1981. Hartigan died on August 6, 1995 at Eagle Ridge Hospital, Port Moody, British Columbia.
