Biography
Colin “Collie” William MacDonald was born March 9th, 1919, in Springfield, Antigonish County, to David and Mary Elizabeth (Chisholm) MacDonald.
He attended the University of Prince Edward Island and received a Bachelor of Arts and Education. He began teaching soon after.
Collie joined the Air Force in Moncton in 1943 and completed his basic training in Quebec. After training, he served in both Quebec and Ontario before being discharged in Moncton in 1945. His brother Dave also served.
After his discharge, he continued his teaching career, teaching in Antigonish and Guysborough counties, as well as in the Territories. He spent the rest of his life teaching, with the exception of a brief period when he worked in a gold mine in Ontario.
After retirement, Collie and his sister, Margaret “Girlie” Grant, spent most of their time volunteering at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish.
Collie passed away June 12th, 2015, in Antigonish and is buried in the South River Cemetery.
