Biography

Private Charles Chisholm was born March 23, 1893 in Salmon River, Guysborough County to Andrew Chisholm and Catherine Boyle. His family moved to Caledonia Mills, Antigonish County around 1884. Chisholm immigrated to the United States with his brother Roderick in 1901 arriving in New York City on April 15, 1901.

Chisholm was one of the five Chisholm brothers from Caledonia Mills to fight in the First World War. His brothers William Chisholm, Alexander Chisholm, Alexander Hugh (Hugh) Chisholm and Daniel Chisholm all served in the war. His brother Daniel Chisholm was killed in the war.

Chisholm enlisted on May 3, 1917 and served in Artillery with the American Expeditionary Forces.  He was discharged due to demobilization on May 7, 1919.

Following the war, Chisholm married Isabela (Isabel) T. Harrity of New York on July 3, 1919 in Manhattan. Chisholm worked in various positions in New York city following the war. He was listed as a mechanic in the 1925 census in Bronx and a machinist for Gas and Electric Company in Yonkers in the 1930 Federal Census. Chisholm later worked as a Supervisor for Consolidated Edison Company in the 1940s.

Charles Chisholm died May 6, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York.
