Biography

Private Angus John Laughie MacDonald was born September 11, 1896 in Frasers Mills, Antigonish county, Nova Scotia. MacDonald was the son of John Lauchlin McDonald and Mary MacDonald. His twin brother Peter MacDonald, and younger brother Alexander J. MacDonald also served in the war. Prior to the war he farmed at his family’s farm at Frasers Mills. MacDonald enlisted in the service April 30, 1918 as a gunner at the No. 10 Siege Battery and was discharged due to demobilization on April 1, 1919.

Following the war MacDonald farmed on his family farm in the early 1920s. By 1935 MacDonald had immigrated the United states and lived in North Arlington, New Jersey. By 1940 MacDonald had married Anna MacDonald had a son born in 1937 and a daughter born in 1939. MacDonald was employed as an electrician and a lineman for Public Service Electric and Gas Company in Jersey City, Hudson, New Jersey for over twenty years and retired in 1961.

Angus MacDonald died April 22, 1970 in North Arlington and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, New Jersey.
