Biography
Private Alexander Chisholm was born April 24, 1887 in Saint Andrews, Antigonish County. He was the son of Andrew Chisholm and Catherine Boyle. Chisholm immigrated to the United States in 1907. He enlisted in the American Expeditionary Forces on June 16, 1916 where he served in the 58th Artillery Unit as a mechanic.
Chisholm was one of the five Chisholm brothers of Caledonia Mills to serve in the war. His brothers William Chisholm, Daniel Chisholm, Alexander Hugh (Hugh) Chisholm and Charles Chisholm all served in the First World War with the American Expeditionary Forces. His brother Daniel Chisholm died in the war.
Following the war, Chisholm resided in Bronx, New York and married Forence MacDonell of Salmon River, Guysborough County sometime before the birth of their son in 1924. They went on two have two sons and two daughters. Chisholm primarily worked as an electrician after the war. He is listed as an electrician in the 1925 New York State Census, and in the 1930 and 1940 Federal Censuses. He is then listed as an emergency service foreman in 1950 Federal Census. Chisholm died November 27, 1971 in Cresskill, Bergen County, New Jersey. He is buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenfly, Bergen County, New Jersey.
