Biography

Private Alexander A. Fraser was born in Lower South River July 8, 1888. He was the son of Angus Fraser and Margaret McKillop. His family moved to Port Hastings, Inverness County, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia the following year. His older brother Collin Francis Fraser served with the American Expeditionary Forces in the First World War.

By the time of his enlistment, Fraser had moved to British Columbia and working as a miner. Fraser enlisted in the 54th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Vernon Camp, British Columbia on May 15, 1915.  Fraser departed Halifax on November 22, 1915 aboard the S.S. Saxonia and arrived in Yarmouth, Norfolk, England on December 1, 1915. He then trained at Bramshott Camp in Hampshire. In August of 1916 he was sent to France, arriving in Havre, France on August 14, 1916. Frasier was killed in action on the field in France on Novemeber 18, 1916. He is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery; two miles from Miraumont, France. He is buried in Plot ID 27.
