Biography

Private Alexander A. Fraser was born in Lower South River July 8, 1888. He was the son of Angus Fraser and Margaret McKillop. His family moved to Port Hastings, Inverness County, Cape Breton Island the following year.

Fraser moved to British Columbia and worked in the mines at the time of enlistment. Fraser enlisted in the 54th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force at Vernon Camp, British Columbia on May 15, 1915. He arrived in Bramshott, England on the S.S. Saxonia. Fraser departed Halifax November 22, 1915 and arrived in Yarmouth, England on December 1, 1915 where he the trained at Bramshot camp.  Fraser then went went to Havre, France and disembarked August 14, 1916. Frasier was killed in action in the field Novemeber 18, 1916. He is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery,  two miles from Miraumont, France, Plot ID 27.
