Biography

Private Alex Joseph MacIsaac was born February 23, 1897  in Dunmore, Antigonish County. He was the son of Angus McIsaac and Mary Ann Chisholm. Prior to enlistment, MacIsaac was a student at Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.

MacIsaac enlisted March 24, 1918 in Halifax as a gunner with the No. 10 Halifax Siege Battery.  MacIsaac was discharged November 30, 1918 due to demobilization.

Following the war, MacIsaac studied to become a Catholic priest at St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto. He was ordained by Bishop Morrison at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, May 27, 1923 in Antigonish.
